Compliance FAQs:

We've done our best to try and answer some of the most frequently asked questions about compliance below:

Compliance in the workplace means businesses meeting the required laws and regulations set by governments and other bodies.

By building compliance with the latest laws, companies are protecting themselves from a number of possibilities. These include potential harm against staff, possible legal action being taken against them, and their business reputations taking a hit as a result.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 is the main piece of legislation governing the UK's workplace safety. This act ensures that employers are providing their staff with reasonable workplace conditions, and that there is co-operation between employers and staff on health matters. One way a business can work towards this compliance is by running electrical checks with Portable Appliance Testing (PAT). By using PAT testing, companies can improve on their fire safety by spotting and reducing the risk of fires or shocks caused by faulty electrical equipment.

Other examples include the Data Protection Act 1998 – which places a duty on businesses to protect their employees' personal data, and also the Companies Act 2006 – which ensures that requirements are met when filing company accounts.
